Boggs PIt Clean-up event July 11th (Deer Park)

Post by hatchdog » Sat Jun 27, 2015 11:58 am

Pictures and text posted on page 3.

Update! Plan on meeting in the parking lot of Double Eagle Pawn and departing to the range no later than 8:30.
I have heard back from Kyle with the DNR and he or another department person will be in attendance. Start time is TBD but most likely we will meet between 9:00 and 10:00. More details to follow but for now let's get a sign up sheet started. If you can make the event please reply to this post with number of people attending and what (if any) food items you can bring.

I would expect we will meet up in the parking lot of the Double Eagle in Deer Park and then caravan out to the range. The exact time will be set once DNR establishes what time they will be available.

If you have never attended one of these activities click the link below to see the dialog and pictures from last year. Not only are we (SGT) providing a great community service by sprucing up these public lands we have an absolutely great time doing so. SGT members have completed probably a dozen or more of these events in the last five years and everybody always agrees that it was the most fun they ever had picking up garbage!!!

Last year's clean-up at Suncrest. See page four for pictures...

I don't know if I will be able to attend or not, but if not then can I donate some funds for someone to pick up supplies? I appreciate all the people willing to help out and would like to support in some way at least.

If we get back from Seaside on the 10th, as we are now planning, I might yet be able to make this one. Might be a tad tired but what the heck!
Can bring rake, shovel, wheelbarrow, some garbage bags, etc. Like I said, i wont know until friday night but I am hopeful!

Please bring your grill, we may not need it with the number of people signed up but hopefully we will get more folks signed up this week.

Bump, we have 24 people signed up for this clean up at the Deer Park pit. That's great, but we can always use more folks. After all, we want to get the work done and begin the fun!!!

Forecast is for 86* and partly cloudy, a really nice day compared with the heat and sun we have been dealing with these last several weeks. Sign up, come on out and meet some of your fellow SGT'rs, provide some great community service and then have fun shooting with your new friends. These events have always been enjoyed by all and especially the children members bring along.

Deer Park pit (Boggs Pit) is a pretty large area and while it is not terribly trashed it's going to be a good sized project for 24 people.

Roight!

Back in State, unpacked, and ready to roll. It has been 2 years or so since my last team clean-up, which was either South Bank or Boggs pit.

I and possibly 1 other, either wife or son, will be in attendance.

I will drag out my folding table for coking on, and a couple of packs of pre-sliced Cheddar, as it just ain't a burger without cheese!

Power picker will be present, and I may get by Wally's for a few more. A real back saver, they are...

A couple of questions for those who have signed up for this clean-up:

Kyle from DNR wrote me and said that due to all the wildfires burning locally he doesn't think that any DNR people will be available to participate in this clean-up. I have requested that if possible that someone comes by and unlocks the gate for us and we would be responsible for locking it up when we are done. I have not heard back from him yet regarding the gate. So, the question is if we can't get the gate unlocked do we want to postpone the clean-up or proceed as planned? This means we will have to haul items for the kitchen and our "toys" into the range by hand. I see setting the kitchen up close to the gate which would minimize the hauling of tables and bbq's.

I would expect we would pile the trash up for a DOC crew to pick up as normal.

I already forgot my second question and will edit this post if it comes back to me.

Oh yea, if we are not meeting up with DNR we can pick whatever time suits us to start. By DNR directive shooting can not start prior to 9:00 am. I would hate show up at 10:00 to find the range full of folks shooting. Do we want to be on site by 9:00 or is that going to be too early. (we would have to leave Deer Park by 8:30) I am going to run up there and post a couple of signs advising about the clean-up but people do what people do! What time folks?

What say you?
