Questions about Dishman mica range
What time does that old guy open up the range? I've been there years ago and can't remember. Is the range still open? I remember he was getting sued..

Re: Questions about Dishman mica range
I am pretty sure it is 2pm. It is still open but they shortened it down a little because of Huntwood.

Re: Questions about Dishman mica range
Can anyone verify they are shooting out this far? I was there March 20th and 330 yards was the farthest out they had targets set up.thumpar wrote: $5 and I think it is now 700 yards. They still have the gongs.
I plan on returning when I can shoot longer distances.

Can anyone give me direction to the range? I look it up is this a low key range or what? I cannot find direction or instruction on how to approach this place?

Re: Questions about Dishman mica range
The range is located at 17700 E Belmont Rd, Mica, WA 99023.
Copy and paste that into google maps and you should be able to see where it is.

There will be a range officer on site who will take your payment. It may not be Joel, AKA "the old man".swxog23 wrote:Do you know where I can find the old man to pay for range fee?AlohaBrass wrote:The range is located at 17700 E Belmont Rd, Mica, WA 99023.

Re: Questions about Dishman mica range
Anyone have an idea why it is 330 still? I thought the court case was over and done with and the whole range was supposed to be back (minus the 1,000 yarder maybe) last December?dmoua wrote:Max range is still only at 330 yards.AlohaBrass wrote:Can anyone verify they are shooting out this far? No one seems to have an answer why this is.
Would like to go out there but have been patiently waiting for the longer range stuff to open up.

Re: Questions about Dishman mica range
Has anybody thought about putting together a gofundme or similar approach to buy some of the adjacent land that is in the danger zone? Looking online, the adjacent land is 150K-170K. Expensive, but with enough people donating, it may be possible to put a large down payment on the land, and then raise the annual membership to help cover the costs.
1: That would solve Tim Hunts problem of ricochets, supposedly impacting on his land, and his problem with selling the land.
2: It would be safer having more land for impact areas, even though the impact media is trees and earth, ricochets are mitigated and as long as the steel targets are at least 10 degrees down and squared to the firing line.
3: The elevation of of the peak within the trajectory of the projectile is higher than the max ordinate, with any small arms projectile.
4: Having a range with targets out to a grand; consistently, will bring in more members, which means more annual memberships.
5: Mandating that only precision bolt action rifles from a single firing position engage targets past 600. This will effectively mitigate the ricochet potential and stray rounds.

You better watch out for some of those "old men", some of us might be a bit twitchy!!! It is already a given we can't hear so make sure you don't sneak up on us, especially the old man @ Mica.Sorry anyone older than me is an old man with respect

Re: Questions about Dishman mica range
I like it too, but don't expect the folks at Mica to be enthusiastic about it. We tried to get them interested in doing something like this to raise a legal defense fund at the height of the lawsuit. They weren't interested.Flawlessfoose wrote:Kopfjager wrote:Has anybody thought about putting together a gofundme or similar approach to buy some of the adjacent land that is in the danger zone? I like this idea.
That's not to say it couldn't be done independently of them. Just that they likely wouldn't participate.
Always looking for a deal on more ammo and reloading components.
