SGT Range Clean-up..... Deer Park Sept. 24th

Post by hatchdog » Mon Aug 29, 2016 6:34 am

More volunteers needed, we only have about 18 27 33 folks coming. This is a big area with lots of trash..... please come out and support our efforts!

I was out at Boggs Pit yesterday and it is the most trashed I have ever seen it. Even with our crew of about 33 I don't think we can get all the crap picked up and still have time for our bbq and fun shoot. We will do the best we can but will have a finish time established in order to eat and admire each others equipment (that doesn't sound right  ). Anything anybody can do to get more volunteers out is appreciated!!

We could use a couple of wheelbarrows as there's lots of large items that will need to be moved about 100- 200 yards for pickup. I will bring mine.

Mother Nature is smiling on us and our effort, 70 degrees and partly cloudy with no rain for Saturday... Come on out and join the fun in the sun....

Let's plan on meeting at 8:30 at Double Eagle in Deer Park and leave for the range at 9:00 sharp! Double Eagle is located in beautiful downtown Deer Park, if driving out 395 take the Deer Park exit next to Parkway Chevrolet. You will see Double Eagle on your right just past the Zips. If driving out Hwy 2, turn left at the traffic light at Riverside highschool onto Deer Park-Milan RD. Continue into Deer Park to the first stop sign, at the NAPA store. Turn left and go about a half mile, Double Eagle will be on your left next to the Zips. I have sent this information to Dan Anderson at DNR and he will meet us at the gate at 9:15.

The good news is Double Eagle shares the parking lot with Zips drive inn. If you aren't aware, the Zips in Deer Park, Chewelah and Colville serve breakfast and it's excellent. Good prices and lots of food! Their handmade breakfast sandwiches make an Egg MacMuffin taste like cardboard...... They open at 7:00 am so if you are looking for breakfast prior that's an option.

Hey SGT folks..... time for another range clean up effort. Dan Anderson of the Washington State DNR is working with us to conduct another SGT/DNR range clean up. Location will be the Deer Park (Boggs Pit) gravel pit which is in dire need of cleaning. Date is Saturday Sept. 24th with the meet time TBD. At this time this post is a call out for volunteers to set this day aside for the effort. For those of you who have not attended a clean up in the past our normal process is:

Meet at an easily found location and caravan out to the range site. After a short safety meeting with DNR we will spend 3-4 hours gathering and bagging trash. Then we will have a bbq lunch and after that a group fun shoot! SGT has completed several of these events in the past and all have been a great success and lots of fun for us. These events are family friendly and spouses and kids are encouraged.

At this time we are only looking for a head count so please reply to this thread if you can make it with an estimated total of people in your group. After the ball gets rolling we will start a volunteer list for food items, bbq's, pop up tents, etc.

These clean-ups are always a good time and you are encouraged to participate. This is a great chance to do some community service, meet fellow SGT'ers and do some shooting.

Some questions from the original thread.....

The other thing DNR would do is unlock the gate so we can drive the pit and not have to hand carry everything to the front. :)
Also, they would intervene if other shooters show up and are unhappy about being turned away until after the clean up is done.

I think majority rules in the case of disgruntled shooters!!! " Hey whiner, if you help it will go faster". This has happened a few times and probably added members.

Also, we could post some signs ahead of time. Yes, they might be used as target practice, but they would be there. I will do this.

Again, what is DNR going to do with the trash? A DOC crew will pick it up and take it to the transfer station.
Are they providing a dumpster? No, we will pile it up in a few central locations for the above.
Are they hauling it away? See above.

As for opening the gate, it would seem like that could be easily worked around. There has got to be some trust between someone here and them, enough to provide access if they can't. Like borrow a key, let us cut the lock and supply a new one, swing by and unlock the gate in the middle of the night(who's gonna know but us), etc. DNR will open the gate for us.

Great news! I enjoy these events immensely and it's nice to be able to meet members who I've becone acquainted with on the forum face to face. Then it only takes a couple/few hours to do the clean up, and the more people that show up the faster it's done, and then have hot dogs & burgers, and then everyone breaks out the hardware and we set up targets. I always bring a couple of guns to shoot, and a couple more for show and tell.

Those of you who have never done this before will be amazed at some of the righteous armament that shows up at these shindigs. And it's a fun event for the whole family and admission is free. :D

I hope the 24rth is a good date for everyone but we all have time now to plan ahead.

I thought that the consensus was that October 1st would be better so as not to conflict with the gun show?
Either way, Good Lord willing and the Creek don't rise, I'm in.
The Boggs Pit cleanup last year was a hoot.
Looking forward to it.....

Yes, October 1st would be a better day but our DNR support was not available either the 1st or the 8th and the 15th is the opening of deer season. September 17th is an option but I am tied up that day. I felt the 10th was too soon to get things organized so that left only the 24th. Yes, we will compete with the gunshow but hopefully if folks want to come out to the clean up they will do so and go to the gun show on Sunday. Worst part is Zebthemighty who got the ball rolling on this effort is unable to make it on the 24th. Glad you can make it BC38, it will be great to see you again!

Hatchdog, do you know if a Washington State Discover Pass is required for vehicle access into Boggs Pit? I just want to make sure a Discover Pass is not required before I commit. Thanks.

NOT required for the clean up. We get a pass on the pass for these events and in fact get credit hours for a future free pass by participating.

Wait... what?
Is this cleanup at Boggs Pit? I didn't realize it was the same place as last year. Not that it matters either way...
Probably be a good idea to post the address, directions, & GPS coordinates too.

I'm in. RON

Oh yeah, but I need directions from NOT Pawn one in Deer park.

I screwed this up! I MEANT DOUBLE EAGLE PAWN In Deer Park!!!!!!!

DOUBLE EAGLE PAWN is at: 811 S Main St, Deer Park, WA 99006 So then I go down Main and I turn RIGHT somewhere (what street?) and after that I think I turn right or left somewhere else??????? and then right again and then maybe left?????

I need to know what streets to take to get out to Boggs pitt.

(EDIT)

O.K. got a map from Bladebum that showed where boggs pit was and then typed in the address for DE PAWN on 811 S Main St, Deer Park, WA 99006 and got these d9irections:

Head north on S Main St toward E. I St

377 ft

At the traffic circle, take the 1st exit onto E. H St

0.4 mi

Turn left onto S Colville Rd

1.2 mi

Continue onto N Dalton Rd

1.8 mi

Turn right onto W Montgomery Rd

0.5 mi

Turn left onto N Sherman Rd

Destination will be on the left?

My work schedule is such that I often only know 24 hrs in advance, do I need to let anyone know if I can come, or if available just show up?
