Is suncrest shooting area open yet?

Post by Mayehem » Sun Sep 18, 2016 9:11 am

Went up there mid August and as you all know it was closed due to fire hazards. But it's mid sept, any updates?

I live not far from it and it is still closed to shooting. Rumor has it that it will open Sept 30 depending on fire danger. This was posted on some facebook page and was told to me. I do not do fakebook so I cannot verify the truth of it. With the weather the way it has been , I would think it would be open soon. Remember you need a Discover pass to be there. I would contact the DNR to find out the truth of it being open.

Stevens County Fire District No.1
18 hrs ·

UPDATE: The DNR has passed on to us that it should open later this week. They are doing some property line surveys and another project. There will be some temporary closures later this month during normal work hours to complete the work.

There is currently a lot of confusion over the status of the shooting range at MM19 off of Hwy 291. Fire District 1 was distinctly told that the shooting range closure would coincide with the burn ban. The burn ban expired (kind of) on September 30th. Fire District 1 has inquired several times about the shooting range and have been told several things. The two main things is that it is now tied to the Fire Danger rating (which remains at "HIGH" for Stevens 1) and the following:

"Thanks for checking in with us. We’re wrapping up a project there and should have the site open in early November. Please check back with us at that time. Thank you."

We strongly suggest that you call the DNR in Olympia to find out the situation. The local DNR personnel forwarded our original requests as it seems Olympia made the changes to the original decree.

Fire District 1 apologizes for any confusion over the past several days, but we were not informed of any changes to the original ban.

I copied this from facebook.

We just contacted DNR and the shooting range known as Stone Lodge/Mile Marker 19 is officially open today 10/07/2016.

The signs are still up at this point but recreational shooting is allowed. There will be a project to improve some of the property in the next few weeks so the shooting area may be temporarily closed during the week.

Guys, what about some outdoor ranges like Suncrest just over the border in Idaho? One would think it would be the promised land for that. If somebody would be kind enough to share here or in a pm to me, that would be really cool

Up date: Signs are down! PLEASE HELP POLICE THE AREA. I had to remind a gentleman who was shooting to the right of the range towards the fire station and homes to please shoot against the dirt back drop. This is a very good shooting area and we don't want to lose it.

You can shoot back there but that's not the area spoken of.
