Suncrest clean-up results and pictures are posted

Post by hatchdog » Fri Apr 18, 2014 2:29 pm

**UPDATE 5/4/14**

I have heard back from the DNR and here is the information:

Chuck Lamica, DNR Recreation Warden will be in attendance at our cleanup and expects to be at the site at approximately 9:30 am. He will arrange for a Dept. of Corrections crew to pick up and haul away the trash, we need only to pile it up in a central location. He has some garbage bags available but encourages us to bring additional bags as there is lots of trash out there. We do not need a Discovery Pass to participate in this cleanup as long as we both participate in the effort and sign a Volunteer Waiver form. (we will need to sign this regardless in order to release the State from liability)

I'm thinking we should meet out at Nine Mile at the old location of Dave's Guns. There is ample parking available and leaving from this location will avoid any stop signs or traffic lights which could break up our caravan. To get to the old Dave's Guns drive out Francis until it turns north and becomes Nine Mile Rd (Hwy 291). Continue on this road several miles until you get to the community of Nine Mile. On your right you will see a small square concrete building which used to be Dave's. I believe it is next to the gas station/convenience store. Let's plan on meeting at 8:45 and depart Nine Mile at 9:00 for the range. This should put us there around 9:30 to meet up with Chuck.

If you have not attended an SGT cleanup in the past here is a link to one held some time ago. It's four pages of replies but if you look at the last couple of pages you will see lots of pictures.

As written in the warm weather thread;
Spectre_USA wrote:Boo-yeah!

I loved the trio of clean-ups I've been to for SGT, but we didn't get a one in last year.

I'll have to cajole the wife into it, like the last South Bank one. Met Kyle of the DNR at last one done, that I'm aware of, at Deer Park.
Can I carry over the credits? :D

Anyway, I'll have the usual arms, with an addition or two, but nothing terribly exotic to fire.

I, too, am stoked, was bummed last year...

hatchdog wrote:OK folks, I have a couple of inquiries pending to complete the final details for the clean-up but here is some "boiler plate" info:

I expect we will meet up somewhere on the NW side of town and caravan out to the site. This will help with those who do not know the location.

I am one who does not know the location AND has a very poor sense of direction. Also, I am bringing one, possibly 2 other people.

The Spokane VA is on the corner of N Assembly street and W Wellesley. Coming from Spokane on Indiana heading West from Monroe, Indiana splitds off to the right at Monroe Street and turns into W northwest Blvd which turns into N Assembly which splits off to the left at Francis and turns into West 9 mile road.

As you're coming from Monroe and heading towards the VA hospital on N Assembly street, on the same side of N Assembly as the hospital at W Wellesley is a big parking lot where there used to be a Yokes Market.

Maybe we could all meet there, assuming that the location of the cleanup is past 9 mile somewhere, but what time would we meet?

There will be two of us. We can bring paper plates, utensils and paper towels. We may be a little late, but know our way there.

I can bring burger & dog buns, say, 2 8-packs of each. Also, how does the dump run get handled? does DNR come pick up the trash, or are we on the hook for transport & dump fees?
Always looking for 7mm Mauser & 10mm brass.
