It seems the deer started a week early and I had no problems getting called out by the pine squirrels during early season :(

I'm gonna have to agree with you on this one. I've hunted more days this year than ever before and I've seen 4 deer. 3 does and a little 2x2 that my buddy shot. Not a single coyote, grouse, quail, or nothing. 4 deer in about 9 days of hunting. Sun up to sun down. I did alot of scouting and saw alot :/

I would agree with dmoua on this one. We were in elk camp near Boyer Mtn last weekend and had a pack of wolves come within 100 yards of camp early in the morning. After that the entire area was deathly quiet. All of the animals either hunkered down tight or left the territory.

Must be the same pack because we were in the same area. My brother got a pretty good footage of the entire pack howling early Sunday morning around 200-300 yards out.

Pretty dead I would say. 3 areas where I hunt and always see deer are absolutely dead. I have put in about 20 miles of hiking in the woods with 8 deer to show for it. 6 does a late fawn and one 2x2 about 700-750 yards away that I lost when I tried to move closer and get a better shot. As far as Elk, haven't hunted any over here but just got back from Yakima and their weren't many Elk where I was at. 3 big cows in the late afternoon. There were probably close to 150 people camped in the area and 3 elk to show for in a week while they were there. I reckon the Elk over there just moved to a less human populous area for the time being.

Blue tongue wiped out the whitetail population last year

I have herd that last year, but still not seeing carcasses by the waters or nothing. I was out 1st and 2nd weekends for early buck. And all but 1 day of elk season. The woods are hunkered down tight,,,,,,,,,, somewhere. Well with any kind of hope we can close the elk season with tags filled. Pine soup sucks, high in vitamin c. But just doesn't compare. Good luck to all the hunters out there :D

Would be cool if you could post some of that footage!

It was impacted but not that much. If it had been that severe WDFW would have restricted the season.

I'm not sure if it's the area I'm hunting or just pure luck, but I've seen crazy amounts of animals this year. Our group took 5 big whitetails, several grouse, and two nice Cougars. I saw a nice buck yesterday when I was breaking brush but he didn't stick around long. Saw a herd of elk yesterday. Close to 35 head. Today we saw several does and a handful of coyotes. Two people from our group shot two nice whitetail. 5x6 and a 4x4. I think blue tongue definitely messed with the population but the damn "native" wolves are pushing everything around.

I know many farmers and ranchers in my area they all found dead whitetails all over I'm talking 100s between all of them one farmer my grandad knows has a heaping pile of horns behind his shop he picked up last year and when has wdfl done anything that makes any kind of sense
