I have a Howa heavy-barreled .308 that I would like to have threaded (5/8"x24). I called a local shop and was quoted $200.00. I do understand that the barrel will have to be removed from the action and turned on a lathe. I've never had a barrel threaded before... is this a decent price?
Thanks!

If they have to remove the barrel, then yeah that's probably close to what it would cost.
I know you can buy a barrel threader and do it by hand yourself for about $60

YouTube has some videos showing you how to use the same thread kit. It doesn't look that hard to me.

Re: Decent Price for Barrel Threading?
I've been looking at using this company, however I have NOT used them yet:
http://class3machining.com/
They have lathes large enough so they can do all the work while leaving the barrel in the action. They charge $50 plus shipping to thread - More if you want them to cut or recrown.

Thanks for the info guys. Think that I'll keep it as-is and look for a 6.5 Creedmoor.
