Purchasing range scrap lead
Is there a market in the Spokane area for either unprocessed range scrap lead or scrap lead that has been smelted? What is the going rate for something like that? I have a sand pile that probably has hundreds upon hundreds of pounds of lead in it, I was just wondering if it would be worthwhile to sift it out? Thanks.

Me too! I have many years of sifting and lead scrounging experience. and I will only Keep PART of the lead I sift. Scrappy is a nice guy and everything but he needs to let me in on this deal. too!
In Spokane the place I like to buy my scrap lead from is Action Recycling E Marietta Ave Off of Hamilton south of N foothills b2 Hamilton turns into Nevada, (509) 483-4094 They SELL scrap lead of all types except battery lead, for about a dollar a pound and they BUY it for about half that price. I've bought many kinds of lead from them from thin little sheets of pure lead that dentists use to shield other parts of the mouth for taking x-rays, up to big 25 pound inch thick by 8 x 10 inch slabs of lead that was part of a whole big X-ray machine as well as lead plumbing pipes and lead from cast iron drain pipe joints, to 1/4 inch thick sheets of lead for who-knows-what, except I saw that used once on a fallout shelter tap door.
I've boutgh buckets of wheelweights form them but those are getting harder and harder to find, and one time I got a whole wooden tray of printer's linotype from back in the 50's and 60's whan they still used that stuff. another time I bough a whole bucket of od caliber cast bullets and a bunch of Lyman ingots and theywer all a very similar alloy when I did hardness testing on them.
PM ME!!! PM ME!!! I'm the best sifter in town! I'm the sifting-est man ever to be! But hurry before the weather becomes too cold for sifting. And also we have to let let Scrappy in on the deal too, since he asked first.

Re: Purchasing range scrap lead
Haha, it's a little bit of a drive from Spokane. It's just a big sand pile that the county dumped years and years ago in the woods off an old logging rd. You can barely stretch out 100yds. My dad said one of the local law enforcement agencies in the area shoots there 1-2 times a week and dumps ALOT of rounds. That's been going on for about the last eight years. I planned on building a big table sifter and driving our tractor down there and running buckets of sand through the table. Luckily it's pure sand so it should sift pretty easily. I won't be back in Spokane until May but I will PM you guys.

Re: Purchasing range scrap lead
Back in the day I used to do rebar and concrete forming and dug some hellacious footings. also dug a large swimming pool with 3-4 other guys on a property that couldn't be accessed with a back-hoe or even a bobcat.scrappy wrote:Ok ok ok already, we can BOTH besiege the poor guy with offers to play in his dirt pile. But now I can only work a little at a time and have to sit down about every 20 minute or my back starts to hurt. Getting old sucks but it beats the alternative.

Jeez Louise Ron! Digging a swimming pool by hand is insane. I will try to create some wheel chair access for you since you are probably old and decrepit by this point.
