Active Shooting at Fairchild Air Force Base
In June of 1994, a mass murder occurred at Fairchild AFB followed four days later by a fatal plane crash.
Several people had warned their superiors that the would be gunman was dangerous and the reckless pilot would eventually push his B-52 beyond it's limits. Their predictions were accurate but their warnings went unheeded.
If you are interested in the story behind the tragedies, here are links to the book's website and Facebook page for more information.

Re: Active Shooting at Fairchild Air Force Base book
At the time I was a civilian contractor working at FAFB, I remember those two days well, the hospital shooting was on the other side of base from where I was. The B-52 that crashed however was pretty darn close to where I was at the time, seemed close enough to feel it.

Re: Active Shooting at Fairchild Air Force Base
I was ADAF at the time I was in the hospital annex for a hearing test when the shooting happened and I was working on the flight line when the BUFF crashed. Horrible couple days for Fairchild AFB. Two days I will remember vividly my entire life...

Re: Active Shooting at Fairchild Air Force Base
I was stationed at Fairchild from November 1969 until a year later in 1970. It was a SAC base then and I had a friend who was in avionics and I got to visit him on the flightline and check out the B52s. I worked for civil engineering as a Power Production specialist and ran back-up generators all over the base and had access everywhere. I moved here in 1998 and visited the base looking for a civilian job and spent the day walking around and things had really changed by then. The biggest difference was how many more civilian employees there were. Back when I was there it was almost all GI's including WAF's.
The story of the shooting really interested me. The Airman who shot the maniac was a real hero. the best account that I read about the story was written by Massad Ayoob for either Guns or American Handgunner magazine for a column that he writes for those publication called "The Ayoob files" thanks for posting this.
(additional note: I just went to the website. I didn't realize that the book was written by former AF Staff Sargent Andy Brown who was the Security Police Sargent who responded to the shooting. I would like to get a copy of this book as soon as it is released, and a signed copy if possible. (It says the book will be release summer 2016)

Massad Ayoob was gracious enough to write the Foreword for the book. He did an outstanding job as per usual.

Just out of curiosity why did you choose to have your book signing at an anti gun venue?
I will can attend because of that.

Northern Quest is anti-gun? Do they prohibit concealed or open carry? I've never seen any signs to that effect nor have I ever been asked if I was carrying even at concerts that I've gone to there.

Ron, that has been my experience as well.ron wrote:

I've attended at least a dozen concerts, eaten way too much at the buffet. Spent loads too much money on Masselow's steaks, and have never noticed signs or placards suggesting firearms were banned. I've never been wanded, scanned, metal-detected, or otherwise questioned about concealed carry. I've even semi-open carried with an OWB incompletely covered by a loose vest while at least one security officer eyed the gun, eyed me, and silently went about his duties with just the hint of a smile on his face.

Re: Active Shooting at Fairchild Air Force Base
Back on topic...
I was stationed at White Bluff (5th Satellite Tracking Station) from '88-'91 and on Fairchild (92d Mission Support Group) from '99 until my active-duty retirement in '05. I currently work civil service for the 92d Aerospace Medicine Squadron (92d Medical Group). Over the years, I've become friends with many of the people that you saved on that tragic day. Your heroic actions are still often talked about to this day. From one veteran to another, thank you for your service and thank you for the many lives you directly and selflessly saved. I wish you great success with the sale of your book.

Re: Active Shooting at Fairchild Air Force Base
Thank you for your kind words and for your interest in the book launch, I look forward to meeting you. The event will be in the casino's large pavilion, I have no idea how many will come out but hopefully there will be plenty of room.
If you are unable to attend, my friends Ed and Peggy Santos of Center Target Sports in Post Falls have offered to host a signing. Will likely be sometime in November. If you haven't been to their guns store and range, you should check it out.
Thanks again.
Andy
