When sh*t hits the fan....

sh*t has just hit the fan....what is your first move? Weapon(s) of choice? what kind of gear would you consider to be essential?

My first move when the sh*t hits the fan is to board up all my doors and windows and pretty much secure my premises as much as I possibly can. I live in a neighborhood so as far as isolation and privacy goes, this is basically the best i can really do....Next I will gather all food, water, weapons, ammo, and any other items i deem necessary throughout the house to make sure my family is secure and comfortable down in the basement which is equipped with a 1950's style bomb shelter...beyond all of that I'm guessing it will basically be a wait and see what happens next type of deal. Depending on the actual situation, If possible, at some point early in the process I will venture out and try to make contact with a friend who lives a few blocks away who is also well equipped. Ideally i would like to make contact with everyone i am close to (family, close friends) but I'm guessing when sh*t does really hit the fan making a phone call will not be possible and getting in a vehicle and driving will either be too risky or just flat out not even an option...

Weapon of choice will be my M&P-15 and Glock 21

Embark upon pre-planned measures with your small group of trusted individuals/families of like political/philosophical persuasion. There will be groups, and isolation will invite attack. A sharing of resources, talents, strengths and goals, individuals among individuals, groups among groups, will be the safest and most direct means to reassert peace and order, if not law.

I plan to have my cyborg from the future take me and a cute girl I barely remember from high school, to a closed Government bunker where we can wait it out. Then, I'll head to the west coast shooting the inevitable zombies and eating Twinkies (if I can find them)...

That's why I bought the 38sp/357 Rossi Ranch Hand.
Welcome to my home..........FYI... that locked door you kicked down was for your protection....not mine.

Sit tight and wait for family/friends to show up, maintain radio contact with like minded friends who will also be bugging in, contact like minded neighbors to share intel/resorces, meet with other neighbors who previously thought us crazy, watch them realize that most the rest of us in the area are prepared.

Rifle when expecting trouble will be the POF 308,
quiet work and edc will be the blackout pistol.
backup edc will be g23.

depending on what the scarenario is, but to reduce looting on a bug in, you can pre trash the place- more so than my place already is trashed that is. throw the tv out on the lawn, a few chairs, crappy clothing, things that would be passed over in this situation and wont be serving you any purpose either. This can help to reduce several people from looking through your place for anything they need if they think its already been done. Staying put tends to be the logical choice not only because that is where "home" is, but supplies, ease of living, community, and the ability to rebuild. On the road or away from home for those of us that don't have a second WELL established location, becomes very difficult with many variables that are not only unpredictable, but impossible to plan for. This makes survival more difficult and adds to the 'whats next' stress factor. Also leaves you open and vulnerable with the inability to protect what you have while on the move unless you are moving with a larger group that you all get along with while under stress. Many people that are not prepared will only survive by taking. At some point, your own level of preparedness will also be exhausted and you may be doing the same thing. For all of us, when the eyes of our families look to us, we all look back with the "anything goes to keep going." The plan of "I will just hunt for my food" is lunacy since all surviving like minded people will be doing the same thing. There are only so many deer out there, and when the line hunt starts, they will move on. This also leaves you away from your family, unless you plan on bringing them and your supplies on every hunt. It all comes down to hoping that it all stays good, while I hear so many eager for it to all go down.
