Rock Island 65xxx. I picked this up at the Sandpoint show and did not get a chance to hear its history. Anyone know anything about it? 700$

I removed the old collapsed melted recoil pad. Barrel is 24” ,front sight looks original ,but no markings on it. Removed the sling swivels to clean. Rear sight is missing the vertical pointer. I thought it looked like a rifle off of a First Nation Reserve with those red Loon eyes and mother -of-pearl inlay.

With that serial number, I would recommend a close inspection of the receiver. Absolutely, don't shoot reduced powder loads... as "flash over" will cause excessive pressure and result in serious consequences.

A "flash over" event occurred recently with a sporterized Rock Island 1903.... it destroyed the twin of a 1903 I've been looking for in the "Firearms Wanted" here on SGT.

I’ve loaded some trail boss loads to shoot with gun tied to bench and P- cord tied to trigger. After that will try some H4895 reduced loads. I am aware of the early s.n. reciver problems. 👍
