for me it depends. but I do have 3 rules though.
1. don't buy stuff cause its cheap
2. don't buy stuff cause its cool
3. if your life might depend on it don't go cheap.
when it come to major or essential components or items or gears ill justify the extra money ive been in enough YOUVE F**KED UP situations to know what works for me and what doesn't. if its not a major or essential components or items or gears ill take the plung but I usually look for reviews before I buy it. which consist of scanning pages after pages of stuff on forums just to find one or two threads that actually have any value. but one off brand product that I use and really like is the Botachtactical sling its the exact copy of the V-TAC 2 point sling for half the price.

I wont buy big name ever, its just "big name and big price". I don't buy junk but I will review the hell out of a product before I buy it. I never buy anything from Crap-belas, they are nothing more than a fast food equivalent for hunting supplies. Mid-range products have always worked perfectly for me.

Depends. Mission drives the tool.

Youtube is a goldmine when it comes to other people testing, shooting, finding out if things work correctly.
Negatives and Positives are both there, same with any of the Forums,
I let other people that I don't know, or never will meet test items for me, saves money in the long run...

Situation is dependant upon if I need it to work. I go on montana hunts that definetaly cost a bit of dough. My rifle is a Mark V with a Leupold scope. The genny is a honda, the vehicle a jeep. I definetaly buy name brand when those hunts are in conditions that can be in the negative 20's. Out shooting my Saiga at the range? Not as big of a deal.
