G19 Gen 4 issues fixed?

Post by Deerbuster21 » Mon Oct 03, 2016 6:19 am

I'm buying a g19 but I can't decide between the gen 3 or gen 4. I've had a few gen 3s and they have been great but I like the feel of the gen 4. I know the gen 4s were having issues at one point in time but I haven't heard if they have been fixed yet or not. Any word? Thanks

G4 came out in 2010/2011 -- Most reported issues were from the newer dual recoil spring. As you know, GLOCKs have unlimited replacement / upgrade parts available to them. I have a stock G23 Gen 4 - and the only issue I ever experienced was that it eats ammo.

I've always been a great believer in, "If it Ain't Broke, Don't fix it" and "Keep It Simple, Stupid" --so I never understood why they had to go to the double recoil spring. But if the Gen 4 fits your hand better, that is of far greater importance and you can always get an aftermarket recoil spring with a stainless steel guide rod instead of a plastic one.

I'm also a believer in, "What CAN go wrong, WILL go wrong, and at the worst possible time". That's why all my Glocks have stainless steel recoil guides and they don't have tungsten spring guides only because I'm too cheap to spend that much money on something that doesn't make that much difference to me from my limited experience of shooting guns that had one.

And here's a video comparing the standard guide rod to the Tungsten:
