Re: Gen 5 glocks released
Shot them at the release at Sharp Shooters last night, they are nice, but I'll stick with a Gen 3, not worth the almost $600 price tag.

Re: Gen 5 glocks released
Really they didn't make any major changes, and in all honesty that is what I like. They kinda refined what was already there.
Every one is kinda dogging on them for not coming out with something totally new. Why the hell would they? They already have the gun that everyone measures there's up to!
They supposedly made them more reliable.
They made them more accurate.
They removed the finger grooves.
They made the trigger better.
They flared the mag well slightly
They added a ambidextrous slide stop/release.
You have the option on stock glock sight or amriglows.
There's some other things I'm missing, but I guess I'm the only one kinda excited to get one.
I'll probably get the G17.

Re: Gen 5 glocks released
For years Glock has been talking about how wonderful and reliable their polygonal rifling was, now they have abandoned that. Unless you are a lefty I don't see how the small changes justify a price bump. The trigger was NOT better, I didn't like it at all.

If they ditched polygonal rifling for something better or more accuracy, then that's a no Brainerd lol.Haynes and Sons Guns wrote:For years Glock has been talking about how wonderful and reliable their polygonal rifling was, now they have abandoned that. And no finger groves is big plus. Sure you can grind them off, but who wants to risk screwing that up, or paying someone to do that.
It's a nice touch. Can't wait to try one out.

Re: Gen 5 glocks released
Prices are going to be very close to a Gen 3 or Gen 4 in price. Any price gouges are from individual dealers/stores, which is to be expected with anything new.Haynes and Sons Guns wrote:For years Glock has been talking about how wonderful and reliable their polygonal rifling was, now they have abandoned that. Glock is smart to stick to what they know works. They have the had the market since the 80's and continue to hold it. Their business model is to make small changes, T&E them, and then institute them on a larger scale.
Peoples dislikes of Glock and personal preference.
I'm on a list for a 19 and I'm not a 9 mm guy, but I want one for my collection.

Looking at Glocks Annual magazine from this year a Glock 17 MSRP is $599 and a Glock 17 Gen 4 MSRP is $649.

Re: Gen 5 glocks released
So, basically, they are incorporating things other manufacturers have had on their firearms for 10 plus years already, or custom shops have been adding to Gen3/Gen4 Glocks for the last 5-10+ years and calling it "innovation". While I am all for the removal of the finger grooves and flare on the magazine well; which I think is a great improvement over the Gen3/Gen4 guns, the rest of the changes I see as being put together by committee. Orange follower in the magazine and ambi slide stop/release? Great for competition... not a big deal for the average shooter. And I say that as a south paw. I have never used an ambidextrous slide stop... perhaps due to having been trained to "sling shot" the slide forward from slide lock.
While they are posting a $599 MSRP, I imagine they'll sell for about $50 less once supply starts to meet demand. So, I imagine a Gen5 Glock will remain within the "affordable" $500-$600 window. If you add up the cost of a Gen3/Gen4 Glock and then toss in the removal of finger grooves, etc. you're looking at about $700 in total. So, in a way I would assume just going ahead and getting a Gen5 is cheaper than picking up an older generation Glock...
That said, however, I don't feel that the changes live up to the hype I have seen online and in the shooting circles I am a part of. So, personally, for me the Gen 5 is a mixed bag. They still don't have an ambidextrous magazine release (which I do use) nor do they have front slide serrations (which I also use) something which S&W, FNH, and others already offer for a lower price.

Re: Gen 5 glocks released
Actually it is fully ambi. Here is the quote from the article
"A left side slide release makes this latest iteration fully ambidextrous, as it retains the Gen4 reversible magazine release."
Also forgot to mention the finish is different to, it's called nDLC finish for barrel and slide. Whatever that is, but they say it's alot darker. The gen 4s seem to have the worst finish of any glocks

Re: Gen 5 glocks released
They did say the finish was harder than most sharpening stones, it was the hardest finish they have ever had.

Re: Gen 5 glocks released
I don't think the ambi slide stop lever is meant to be used to improve lefty's releasing the slide (considering the part is not designed or trained to be used as a slide release), its so lefty's have an easier time locking the slide to the rear during manipulations.
I just got my Gen 5 19. Trigger is awesome, feels smoother and lighter. Finish does look darker (time will tell if its more durable). The ambi slide stop lever make running the gun left handed nice. The flared out mag well and under cut trigger guard are nice. Looking inside the gun the barrel, guide rod, and some of the springs are noticeably different, looking more lie the 42 and 43.
All and all Im happy with it. Looking forward to the 21 coming out.

Re: Gen 5 glocks released
Yeah they changed some things internally. I know that the frames are no longer 3 pin, and now are 2 pin like your 43 and 42 you mentioned.lyons wrote:I don't think the ambi slide stop lever is meant to be used to improve lefty's releasing the slide (considering the part is not designed or trained to be used as a slide release), its so lefty's have an easier time locking the slide to the rear during manipulations.

Re: Gen 5 glocks released
So far, I love my Gen5 19.
Pros: Trigger way better than Gen4, no finger grooves!, slide finish is outstanding!
Cons: Factor sight are meh, replaced them with Viking Tactical. I can't stand right side slide stop, will be waiting for aftermarket fix, or will just cut it off.

Handled the G19.5 today, don't like the front cut out. Too bad slides are interchangeable as I understand.
