300 AAC Blackout
Who are the 300 BLK guys on the forum? How are you liking the cartridge?
What implementation (Barrel length, twist) (AR Pistol, AR Rifle, Bolt)?
Are you reloading? What supersonic and sub-sonic loads are cycling reliably for you?

Re: 300 AAC Blackout
Just getting started myself. Waiting for my barrel and Form 1. Going to be a 9" barrel with a SDN-6 and UWRG upper/lower. Probably going to have to reload based on availability of factory ammo.

Re: 300 AAC Blackout
So far, I've built a carbine with a complete AAC upper and a Aero lower. Second, I built a pistol with a 7.5 inch barrel, and now I'm running a SAA carbine. I have yet to shoot the SAA yet. (Waiting on my Nikon P300 scope)
I love the ballistics of the cartridge. I have shot mine super sonic and subsonic. I have not had any problems except when I tried to shoot sub sonics through the pistol without a can.
My dad and I are reloading, using 147 grain once pulled bullets, and 16.4 grains of H110 powder for the super sonic stuff. We are still trying to perfect the sub sonic stuff, so we are just using factory stuff right now.

Re: 300 AAC Blackout
I'm running a CMMT SST 1:9 mid length upper with pistol gas setup, it was a preassembled upper from protection first. It's paired up with a CMMG lower, from Double Eagle. No far no issues running sub sonic or super sonic.
Just about all of the ammo I'm shooting is from converted .223/5.56 brass. I've hand loaded with AA no. 9 and W296 powders, and starter with CCI no. 41 primers, now switching to CCI small rifle primers both have been good, but the no. 41 are more expensive and I don't see any advantage. Using Speer 150grn bullets.
For my first AR-15 it's been a very fun and accurate firearm, other than the cost of factory ammo. Certainly look into rolling your own or find a friend with a press that'll help you out.

Re: 300 AAC Blackout
Mine's a pistol, 10.5" barrel with pistol gas tube. I've only ran a box of hornady 208gr amax subsonic through it as I spent most of my free time making 300BLK brass.
I also have the NOE 247gr 311247 mold and it drops some nice bullets. I plan to shoot those mostly, also subsonic through my YHM Phantom suppressor. I look at the cast bullets as making the gun a 10/22 on steroids. 247gr @ 1,000fps.
I have the Sig arm brace. It works until (if) was will allow SBR's. Until then, it's a pistol.

eph411 and I have been drinking the Blackout kool-aid for a couple years now. I personally love the caliber for suppressed work and it hits like Mike Tyson.

Re: 300 AAC Blackout
I got into the blackout craze early. I have a pistol and two rifles. My first upper is a pig and will only run supers reliably. It runs subs with a special buffer spring and only with a can. Looking back I can't believe I stuck with it. Then I built a pistol, it runs perfect! Super, subs, can, no can, it plain runs!
Ammo was easy to get and cheap pre SH. Now you got to do some digging. You can get factory subs for a little over a buck a round. I got set up to load myself, but my first sizing die was out of spec and I had to pull 500 bullets. Now thanks to a kick ass member on here, I pay to have my 223 brass converted. He does a great job and anneals the brass for better neck tension and brass life.
Last night I got the call, my stamp came in for my Leonidas. It plain rocks! Very, very quiet! Recoil is like a .22.
I think the round is here to stay and we will see all the big ammo manufactures get in the game.

I find it at WalMart occasionally but usually the people working there don't know what I'm talking about. Sharp Shooting usually carries it as well.

Re: 300 AAC Blackout
I built my 300 BLK with a Wilson 16" barrel & carbine gas & love it. Using Sierra 110 gr HP's and Win 296 or H110 at 2400 fps for pigs - 225 yd shot aimed about 8" high and bullet broke front leg, penetrated both lungs but didn't exit. Pig ran about 15 feet & died - he was maybe 150 lb pig. For longer distances a 125 gr would be better. I had a 6.8 SPC but sold it because unless you have a 20" barrel you can't get more energy out of it than 300BLK and it is only marginally better at distance and all the different mags and different bolt was annoying. Going to get a 6.5 Grendel for distance and use 300 BLK for short range & suppressed.

Re: 300 AAC Blackout
The obvious advantage of the 300 over the 6.8 is that the 300 is based on the 5.56 case and can use the standard boltface and standard mags. If I were going to chose something non-standard I think I'd pick the 6.5 Grendel over the 6.8. Or maybe the 450 Bushmaster? (for shooting pigs)GreyGoose wrote:(Clears throat)

Tempted to shoot the kids 4H pigs out my back window if they escape again.... Seriously if you haven't pig hunted in TX you need to do it. Don't even need a license if pigs are all you're after since they are considered vermin, but unless you know a landowner you'll pay from$75 to 200 a night. For extra funsies get on a helo hog hunt (check out "Aporkalypse Now"), or if your outfitter has dogs try with just a knife. My next venture will be Night vision & 300 BLK suppressed. My new 300 BLK is an 8" Noveski pistol & it's awesome. Instead of the sig brace (nice concept but $130 for a chunk of molded rubber and a strap? YGBSM!), I shoot with a sling & push the gun forward against the sling & cheek weld the padded buffer tube. Quite fast and steady when you get used to it. If you try to shoulder the tube it's too short and hurts under recoil with such small surface

Re: 300 AAC Blackout
I like the 6.5 Grendel better than the 6.8. It's better at long range. But for medium range there's a lot to like about the 300 Blackhawk, especially since it's based on the 5.56 case and feeds from standard AR mags which is the one thing that gives it an advantage over the slightly more powerful 762x39 or the Grendel or the 6.8.GreyGoose wrote:(Clears throat)
