7.62x39 AR platform - serious mag issues - help?!

Post by RRA629 » Wed Jan 18, 2017 9:23 pm

Have various capacity ASC mags. Tried two brands of steel case, both have so much friction I can barely get the rounds out of the mag by hand, let alone by shooting. That, or they get stuck, keeping the follower/spring from working, and I can hold the mag upside down and shake them out.

Any mods I can do and/or use a "better" steel case brand, if such a thing exists for plinking?

Are you sure the ASC mags are dedicated 7.62x39 mags? Please post a picture if you can.

They are marked as such on the follower. Maybe try a couple more brands of ammo? Mine may have been Tula and Red Army.

It's not the ammo!
If the mags are a little older it may be possible that the springs need replaced.
Especially if they were stored loaded.

Maybe springs, or followers, I run some old C products, some older ASC, some newer ASC and now some Stoner mags that I believe are ASC. I did order some ASC a couple years back and had to wait on them, only to send them back for replacement, and they run fine, they all do. Let us know if you find out what is causing the hick up. ASC sells spring and follower kit.

Call Rick, "The Glock Doc" and let him sort out your problem. He has a comparable set-up and is very reasonable along with having very good diagnostic skills.

Late on the draw here, but keeping the mags loaded for awhile was the cure. Decided to attempt to sell to help fund the new ride. No takers thus far, so am hoping to get out with Mr. Rick Hastings for some range time when the snow melts a bit more.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like a simple but frustrating experience. Many new mags need to be loaded to obtain a "set" point for reliable function. Glad you are up and running.

For one, your putting a decent round into a crappy platform
Good steel case always feeds through a well built gun
The plastic crap doesn’t like it
