Re: Brass vs. Steel Cased Ammo
Best gun related article I have read in years and here are the key findings.
Brass vs. Steel Results
Which Ammo Was Most Reliable?
The data which will probably be most interesting to everyone who reads this article is how often each rifle malfunctioned. To satisfy that particular thirst, here are the basic results:
•Federal: 10,000 rounds, 0 malfunctions.
•Brown Bear: 10,000 rounds, 9 malfunctions (5 stuck cases, 1 magazine-related failure to feed, 3 failures to fully cycle)
•Wolf: 10,000 rounds, 15 malfunctions (stuck cases)
•Tula: DNF (6,000 rounds in alternate carbine, 3 malfunctions)

Re: Brass vs. Steel Cased Ammo
I've read this. All I got out of it was that, for the price, it's totally reasonable to shoot steel case. When I buy ammo, I want what is cheap, but also what is reliable. This is a reliable enough margine of failure for me for general plinking.

Re: Brass vs. Steel Cased Ammo
Great article. Would be very interesting to see the results for the same ammo types fired out of mid length and rifle length gas systems. At any rate, Brown Bear or Wolf seems like a great way to inexpensively feed a beater rifle for plinking!

Re: Brass vs. Steel Cased Ammo
I know it's a zombie thread but I was a the range the other day with some steel cased ammo. It shot like absolute crap. I was all over the target at 75 yards. I was getting kind of pissed. Thinking it was my scope...no...Mounts...no. Everything was nice and tight. I grabbed some brass...3/4" groups and I was hardly taking my time. Blew the out hole bottom left bullseye. Adjusted. and I was spot on. Put the steel case back in...sh!t. I'll never buy steel case ammo again. for the few cents you save you sure give up a lot of accuracy. Anyway just thought id share my experience to prevent someone from trial by error.
Do or do not there is no try.

Re: Brass vs. Steel Cased Ammo
I have had cases of wolf .223 that shot fine and others that jammed up or short recoiled every few shots. If you shoot lacquer coated steel cased ammunition you may need to clean your chamber with lacquer thinner. I shoot good quality brass. I have had problems with American Eagle AR223 short recoiling also. Works good for chamber clearing exercises, but that is about it.

Ak eats steel case all day like Skittles.
