Stripped grip bushings..

Post by bambam72 » Fri Jan 29, 2016 8:03 am

Has anyone had this issue? I finally gave up and bought the oversided bushing and tap kit.. Shouldnt some blue threadlock fix this with the new bushings?

Update.. Ordered the tap n oversize bushings i will update after its repaired. Think blue loctite should suffice for a long term fix..

Still not good.. Oversize bushings were no long enough to start a thread in the new threads.. Grrrrr.. Just saying anyone who tinkers with 1911 grips be mindful of those bushings.. LESSON LEARNED HERE..may be 1911 frame shopping soon...

Just weld, drill, and tap. Easy Peasy.

No need to buy a new frame. Go see Rick and Scott at Firearms Finishing, They will do it right and get the holes in the right place and if there's welding to be done, they'll use the right rod and not mess up the heat treatment or cause voids or any other problems. I know we all like to be self-reliant, but guys who do this kind of stuff 24-7-365 are way better at it than someone who only does this kind of work once and a while.

Also these guys are some of the best in the business and it's good to get to know them.
