1911 in 9mm...experience?

Post by ghillieinthemist » Thu Mar 10, 2016 12:05 pm

Does anyone have or know anything about 1911's in 9mm. I do not want a 45 but I am considering a 1911 in 9mm. If there are any pros out there with experience with these I'd appreciate some input. Also,,,,brands and overall best value and reliability.
Do or do not there is no try.

I have a couple of 9mm and 38 Super colts and have always liked them , low cost and low recoil . In the old days the 38 super was the magnum 9mm though the way 9's are loaded today there is not as much difference , both my supers will shot 9x 23 as is and that gets you very close to 357mag/sig

I rented a Springfield 9mm 1911 while at a range on the west side a while back. It ran SMOOTH, and was a real pleasure to shoot.

Just switched to 9mm 1911 myself. Went with Guncrafter but are really pricey (not as pricey as the Ed Brown 9mm I wanted). I think the best value for the money would have to be Dan Wesson. Almost a semi-custom at a great price. Just picked up a 9mm SS V-Bob for my wife from Grab-A-Gun for $1355 shipped. Happy I switched to 9mm on my carry. A 135grain +P Critical Duty round will do what I need it to do if I ever have to use as trained for...

Bought a Kimber Ultra CDPII in 9mm a few years ago. Paid $1250 for the worst pistol l I've ever owned. Not trashing Kimber, but my experience with that pistol sucked. Put a thousand rounds through it and that thing jammed and failure to feed going into battery every time. Even sent it back to Kimber and they didn't know what was wrong. Tried every ammo out there, nothing helped. Not a road I suggest going down with Kimber. I own another Kimber in 45 and it's amazing. Best of luck!

Not a 9mm but i just bought a Springfield 1911 EMP4 in .40 s&w and talk about a sweet pistol. Shoots so nice i ordered the standard EMP also in .40..

I'll let you know how it goes..

Ive also heard the kimber ultra's in 9mm and .40 made around 2008/09 were jammo matics.. not sure if current models are any better..

I have a micro .380 and it's a sweet shooter..

A friend of mine got a commandeer-size RIA in 9mm and still thought that it was too heavy for a carry gun, but he liked how nice it was to shoot. I got to look it over and it looked very well made. Over the years Rock Island has developed a very good reputation, and it would be a good one to try out to see if you like it because of the lower cost compared to other 1911's unless you could stumble on a good used Colt for not much money because those are hard to find and not usually available for a decent price.

Got a new Springfield RO in 9mm. Good looking gun and it shoots great. First experience with a 1911 in 9mm, the recoil is noticeably softer than a 45.

OP - check out cabela's , they have a Springfield RO 5" in 9mm on 'clearance' for $720 or $700 if you still have the $20 off discount coupon, even less if you have Cabrla's points to use.

Don't know how many they have left ... but I do know is that they have 1 less. :)

Happy shopping.

Just my two cents. Myself and my daughter have had very good results (running and accuracy) with our Kimber CDP 9mm Pro sized 1911s. Both bought new in the last three years and have been great. My Wilson Combat CQB Elite 9mm (2015) ran perfect from round one on, and is very accurate, but not the best value. The original post was asking about value.

I have a Springfield Range Officer in 9mm I picked up here on SGT. Shoots great and is almost as much fun to shoot as a .357 lever action carbine.

According to Wilson Combat, 4.25 " commanders run the most reliably. He mentions the timing is best on that length.
I love 9mm in a 1911.
