Project ATI FX45 R&R (Recovery & Restoration)

Post by RLHas » Sat Apr 23, 2016 5:29 pm

A few years back I took an ATI Commander sized 1911 in trade.
I kinda liked the little pistol but I felt it could use some tuning. I did what I felt was needed to refine the action on it and tune the trigger and safety system.
I got it running real sweet and made the mistake of taking it out shooting with my kid and grandkids. We had a blast and fired off a bunch of rounds with this li'l sweetheart and never had an issue.
My mistake was letting my kid shoot it... It went home with him!
He and my grandsons just fell in love with it and it had found a new home.
It's all worth it when you see the look on the face of those kids when they shoot at and hit their intended targets. All while respecting and handling the pistol with complete safety and proper discretion. Makes you feel like what you taught your kids has been passed on.
Anyway...
Thanks to indiscretions of desperate times it found it's way to a well loved local pawn shop and never picked back up. I found this out while conducting my own investigation of the loss of several of my toys.
It was later sold off (we all know how that can he) then later returned as non functional.
When I got it back I immediately went in to see WTF?
Someone had bent the trigger stirrup, changed out the disconnector, filed (yes "filed")
At the sear face in what looked like some strange attempt at a you tube trigger job.
With what I had found and with limited on hand parts I figured I'd start a project.
I stripped it all the way down to the main components and began work.
I began by doing a semi melt job on the hard edges of the slide...

I lowered and flaired the ejection port...

Then did the Marvel Modification for a smoother transition for the dissconnector

Thanks Guys!
It was fun and I think I'm gonna figure out a complete build with some of the Caspian stuff, Novak, Ed Brown, Wilson Combat...etc.
We'll see.

You're coming over to the dark side buddy!! I noticed the Pachmeyers, couldn't do without that familiar feel of plastic in your hand? :D
Rest easy, sleep well my brothers

Rest easy, sleep well.
Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held.
