Good gun. If the price is right grab it!

Here is a similar thread. My first 1911 was a Taurus. I did not have much luck with it and stated such in the above thread. The problem was eventually resolved, but I lost confidence in the gun. Moved on to several colts and smith's 1911.

Gotta say I might even prefer the smith with the (gasp) external extractor :D

However, the price of the Taurus stings a lot less!!

Taurus makes a decent 1911 however my issue with Taurus is their repair policy and the shady (in my opinion) way they handle it.
For the same money I highly recommend an ATI or a Rock Island Armory or even a Tisas
I know the latter two are basically a GI spec pistol made with retired COLT tooling.
Both of these pistols offer an excellent platform for someone who desires a builder.
These also shoot as well as any base model gun right out of the box.
While the ATI is NOT Mil-Spec it is an excellent design and will run with any Kimber if worked right.
I know! I have one...

Rick is spot on, I have shot Rock Islands that were AWESOME, their Tactical model is sexy as hell. I also like a lot of the Armscor frames that can be found on Charles Daly's and the lower end STI's. I have one of each that I will put up against any Sub $1500 gun any day of the week. I also REALLY like Para's, which can be found for a great price, and they are an American made gun. What ever you grab up, let Rick work his magic on that trigger, its a small investment for a BIG improvement!
