Why a 1911 needs a rail on the dust cover
Why a 1911 needs a rail:
First of all, a 1911 in 45 ACP is the ideal home defense gun. because the 45 ACP is an excellent defensive round that operates at low pressures and doesn't have the muzzle blast of a 357 magnum or a 10mm auto or 357 sig of even a 40 S%W, and if an 8 round Wilson mag and one in the chamber isn't enough for you, there are double-stack 1911's. Either that or when you grab your gun when something goes bump in the night, grab another spare 8 round Wilson mag or even a ten round mag and you'll be good to go.
Here's a video of someone shooting a rare one-off Swartz 1911 full auto machine pistol with an extended mag (10 round? -Maybe more.) and he empties that mag pretty fast. and that gun need a rail to mount the forward grip!

Government is not reason, it is not eloquence — it is force. Like fire it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master; never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.

That's pretty sexy. Closest I could time it was about a half second which would be about 1200/min rate.ron wrote: Here's a video of someone shooting a rare one-off Swartz 1911 full auto machine pistol with an extended mag (10 round?) and he empties that mag pretty fast.

Re: Why a 1911 needs a rail on the dust cover
What the $&%! is a 'dust cover'???
I looked online to see if I can buy one...I can not...
I read through my buddies M1911 service manual...I saw nothing of this illusive 'dust cover'
I asked several vets about where the 'dust cover' was on a M1911...(almost got my ass kicked for them thinking I was being a smart-ass)
I searched many schematics on 1911's looking for this 'dust cover'...found nothing...
So, my question is...When did we start making up new names for parts? Why are people not learning what parts are? And most importantly,

Sorry, but what, exactly was the point?
A 1911 does not now, nor has it ever in the span of 100 years needed a rail.

How else are you going to mount your bayonet?

Re: Why a 1911 needs a rail on the dust cover
Okay, So now why are we re-naming parts???
Its the Mother-Fing frame...LMAO!! Its not a separate piece, its not a new component, its just the frame!
If you want to buy a 1911 frame with a rail, you search for a 1911 FRAME W/ RAIL
Not some magical made up 'tacticool' term of 'railed-dust cover'...

I had the option to edit or ban... Did I make a mistake choosing the edit? Time will tell...Grace_Hunter07 wrote:Not gonna lie...I feel so special and loved when I get censored by the Mods on here...

Re: Why a 1911 needs a rail on the dust cover
Personally, I love a rail on a 1911. Why? Because I think a 1911 is one of the best designs, and being able to put a light on it makes it even more useful, like seeing what your 1911s pointed at in the dark!
Does anybody want to trade me my SA TRP non rail for there railed version?

Re: Why a 1911 needs a rail on the dust cover
There have been a number of changes that John Moses Browning didn't include in the original design. We also don't shoot one hand on hip anymore. Putting a light on any defensive firearm is super handy.

Handy yes however potentially dangerous. If your using it to clear a room or such you are sweeping every thing and anyone in the room with your muzzle. Remember in some locals the act of pointing a firearm at someone can be considered a violation of the law. Let alone the concept of sweeping a loved one in the process. May be better to have a separate light and learn how to use it tactically. IIRC Ed at Center Target Sports still runs a low light course, may be worth the time and money.

Re: Why a 1911 needs a rail on the dust cover
I never bought into the sweeping argument. Low ready/position sol with a light on casts enough light that you can pick up whether you need to be directing light and consequently the muzzle AT the whatever. While I'll agree that not everyone needs a weapon mounted light, it's an excellent thing for certain folks. Yes, get training, all the training. Vet your instructors, keeping in mind firearms instructing is one of the most unregulated industries out there.
I was just responding to the OP asking about the rail on 1911's, again, for certain people it's an excellent evolution in the 1911 design.
