AR15 feeding issues

Post by JdWise » Thu Jul 20, 2017 7:51 pm

My AR has had no issues for over 1000rds til a week ago.. I had some feeding issues.. it stops about 1/4 of an inch from going into battery... I pulled apart my rifle and cleaned it (like I do after every outing) I found my buffer tube spring looked like this..

I don't think that it's normal and is probably my issue. I did not find any of the spring broken inside the buffer tube but I easily could have dropped it somewhere as I was cleaning it on my bed and lord knows if the loop could have dropped somewhere.

Is this a normal end of a buffer spring or am I right in thinking both ends usually, for the lack of a better word are crimped together closer?

Thats nots normal, your correct in thinking that they are flattened and coiled close together at the ends, you may have gotten a factory defect, but if its rough on the end of that wire, its a break. Get a new spring and make sure there arnt any debris in your buffer tube and put a light coat of good quality armorers grease on the inside of the buffer tube/buffer and the spring. You'd probably get a better deal just buying a spare spring kit from a quality ar-15 manufacturer, and when another spring goes, your prepared.

Thank you! Didn't want to buy a replacement if I didn't have to.

And yeah it's touch on the end and colored differently looks like a break, but wasn't 100% sure.
