300wm vs 300rum
Hey everyone!
I am looking to invest in a new gun within the near future. I am pretty set on a 300. Just curious as to what you guys suggest between the two. I know that the rum thumps a little harder and is a little more expensive on ammo. I am looking for it to be an mule deer to elk rifle. Also what do you guys suggest as a good scope, I don't need anything super crazy but not a piece of junk.
Thanks guys!
Brennan

Re: 300wm vs 300rum
If you're at all new to this deal, 300WM.
If you want to source materials, parts, and pieces easily, 300WM.
If you're not into hand loading, 300WM
If you want a rifle that will last, 300WM.
If it's your one and only hunting rifle, 300WM.
If you are not looking at hunting elephants in Africa, or making shots at ultra long ranges, 300WM.
Basically, unless you're willing to jump down in the ultra magnum rabbit hole with Alice and her long range ultra-magnum devotee's... go with 300WM.

Re: 300wm vs 300rum
I am not sure about any rabbit hole, but I love my RUM. I have 3 relatives with them as well. All of them base guns with no extra work and they will all shoot 3 shots in under an inch. Mine has a trigger job only and with reloads is at just under 3/4". Tons of factory ammo options including reduced recoil as well as some really good long range options. I have nothing against the WM. I do like the beltless case and ability to go bigger if you want to. You don't have to use all 400+ HP in your sports car, but sometimes it's nice knowing it's there if you need it or your mood changes. Can't go wrong with either, but if I were in your shoes I'd go RUM.
I have VX-3 scopes on most my hunting rifles, several buddies have had good luck with Vortex. I like a good clear scope, but have not spent 1000's on a scope like I have on Binos. I really like the high end Binos. I spend way more time looking through my Binos than my scope.

Re: 300wm vs 300rum
If youre shooting 300WM chances are you reload and supplies are cheaper than 300rum. I have purchased boxes of 300 win mag for about 18.00 just to get brass
Do or do not there is no try.

Re: 300wm vs 300rum
I would choose the 300WM if you don't reload as there aren't any match loads for the RUM that I know ofar 15 lower receiver|ar 15 bolt carrier group. If you handload then you can push the RUM faster and it would be a better round ballistically and get you farther out there than the 300WM but that said the WM will get you plenty far and if I needed to go farther I would probably go up to a .338. Maybe a 338 RUM if you wanted to keep the cost down compared to the Lapua.
Live, Laugh, Love. If that doesnt work, LOAD AIM AND FIREar 15 bolt carrier group|ar 15.
