Grouse?

Post by T-Bone » Mon Sep 18, 2017 7:30 am

Anyone having any luck with forest grouse?

Two hunts have yielded 4 flushes with ZERO possible shots. I hunt with my Springer, Walter The Wonder Dog.

Haven't been out yet but now we have had some rain Mrs. hatchdog "the grouse slayer" and I have a trip planned for later in the week.

Between two quick hunts I've killed 6 and my wife shot one. There are tons of grouse this year. My little .410 Remington Wingmaster is on fire!

Thanks for the report, good to hear.

IMHO, the only pump nicer than a Wingmaster is a Wingmastger in .410. Had an old buddy (now deceased  ) who had one and he used it for Doves......talk about making a difficult shot even more so! :o Lots of Dads put a .410 in their kid's hands to start bird hunting but the .410 should be considered an expert's gun.

Mike, I agree the .410 is definitely a crippler in a novices hands. Below is a pic of my son holding my limit of birds from Labor Day weekend and my .410. Only 2 of the 6 I've shot this year have been out of the air. I use the high velocity Remington 3" #5s, knocks em' down quick. I bought it from a farmer my dad knows for $300. I was hesitant to retire my 20ga for grouse but so far I've been very impressed with the .410s performance. Good luck!

I have shot my fair share of grouse this year. Mainly blue grouse.

Had a great day grouse hunting yesterday but only one bird came home with us. Had one unshootable flush and one in the bag! :D
