Trail cam pictures

Post by hatchdog » Fri Oct 20, 2017 9:20 am

So, around Sept. 23 I set up my trail cam with a salt lick and a deer block for bait. When I returned last Monday (10/16) the deer block was completely gone which surprised me as unless there are heavy rains blocks will generally last much longer. I found what appeared to be three large, very large piles of bear poop but were real loose so hard to tell for sure. Of course with a camera involved the evidence will be available. After a day of grouse hunting I pulled the SD card from the camera after taking a quick look at a few pics (203 total) which showed bear activity. Got the card home and downloaded and found this bear had basically moved in and had taken up residence. :D He (must be a he as it is so large) visited on the following days/times: Disregard the 2015 year on the pictures, I guess I didn't reset the year when setting it up. These pics are from 2017.

9/23, 9:42pm to 9/24, 2:29am.
9/24, 5:32pm to 9/25, 12:20am.
9/25, 5:39pm to 9:01pm.
9/26, 3:13am to 4:46am.
9/26, 4:35pm to 4:37pm.
9/26, 11:58pm to 9/27, 4:42am.
9/27, 4:45pm to 5:52pm.
9/28, 12:08am to 2:43am.
9/28, 11:16pm to ?
10/10, 4:48am to ?
10/14, 3:12am to ?

Interesting pattern, for six days he visited every day and this is when the feed block was fresh. I'm not suggesting he was at the block for the entire time spreads shown above, probably came and went within the posted hours. The real crying shame is that he visited four consecutive days in a row from 4:35 to 5:39pm. That was an easy opportunity missed.(I'm not currently hunting bear so not a big deal for me but what a trophy!). Of the 203 pictures on the card probably half of them are of this bear.
