Hello- does this Ruger actually shoot 5.56 or just 223?
I would be interested if it shot the 5.56

Conventional wisdom is that you can shoot 223 or 5.56 in the Ruger Mini-14 unless it is a Target model. This does not appear to be a target model. There seems to be a lot of chatter on this subject on Ruger forums, I would go to one and see what I saw which was that there were several people who claim to have shot hundreds if not thousands of rounds of both out of their Minis without issue. If you are using anything over 62 grain or any special military load I would dig a little deeper.

Yes, you can shoot .556 in this rifle. Below is the Q&A directly from Ruger on this topic

Q: Can I shoot 5.56 NATO ammunition in my Mini-14® or Ranch Rifle?

A: With the exception of the Mini-14® Target Rifle, which accepts only .223 Rem. ammunition, .223 Rem. and 5.56 NATO can be used in all Mini-14® rifles and Ranch Rifles.
Please note that "Military Surplus" 5.56mm NATO can vary greatly in its quality and consistency.
