best pocket flashlight ?

Post by nrthwst » Sun Apr 17, 2016 4:30 pm

I am looking for a pocket flashlight.
I don't often carry a weapon light and during the fall and winter months when it gets dark early I'd like to carry a pocket light.

Now what im wanting is something with a clip, and very durable water proof would be great as well. It needs to run with batteries smaller than AAA's and be less that 4 inches long as my job requires alot of bending and lifting.

Anyone have an suggestions ? Prices and pictures would be great too.

For something that small I would go with a Maglite. They are not expensive either.

I consider myself a flashaholic. Smaller than AAA would be button batteries.

My favorites for the money and user interface are Quark and Fenix. AA and CR123 though.

I have had a flashlight with me every day for the past 6 years it is just part of my EDC
I have spent big money on them and got them from all over the place.

My top 3
• Streamlight 66118 Stylus Pro Black LED Pen Flashlight with Nylon Holster $18.39 (Amazon)
• Streamlight 66318 MicroStream C4 LED Pen Flashlight $18.39 (Amazon)
• 5.11 Tactical TMT PLx Penlight, Black, 90 Lumens $26.50 (but I have gotten one for $15.00)
All of them are Small, all last forever on AAA Batteries (I replace the batteries every 6 month or so. Less in the summer more in the winter) when they go through the wash they still work. If I lose one I am out $20.00 not $100.00. I keep a spare in all my rigs.
All around a Bright, Cheap, easy to use flashlight
They all have a button on the butt of the flashlight so… Hold it is on let go it is off or click and it stays on click and it goes off. No Flashing or strobe or press 4 times to turn off. They are simple.
The 5.11 is not fully round (I like that it does not roll away) it has a good grip in the hand. FYI I always remove the carry clips
Kimbers are the guns you show your friends....Glocks are the ones you show your enemies.

I have both quark and fenix lights. At first I was skeptical because they were Chinese but my first fenix is 4 years old and running strong. The models change constantly but you will find exactly what your are looking for because they have so many models. Good luck.

I have tried lots of flashlights over the years, and I have found that if it starts to get in the way and bug you its usually gonna end up on a nightstand or in your backpack. I finally settled on a Pelican 1910- Have had it for about 4 years and it is ALWAYS in my pocket, tough and decently bright. I have been currently thinking of trying out the new Surefire Titan- I am also kind of a Surefire fanboy... Anyway try and keep it small so you don't have much excuse to not have it, I think i am gonna switch to a 2 stage light.

Best $35 I've ever spent on a flashlight. Last one I dropped over 60' from an overhead crane onto a concrete floor(light was still on after landing), & it survived for another month before finally dying. Also takes standard AAA batteries.

There are quite a few brands out there that you will not typically see or hear about. The prices vary dramatically, from what I have found Zebra brand flashlights could arguably be considered as the best+/- $100...I personally don't own one yet. Olight is another really good brand, I own a larger one and it is sturdy enough that I would bet I could run it over with my truck. They have very small versions that are just a bit larger than the 123 battery they use. The wife has a Nightcore head lamp- about the length of my index finger 1k lumens. They also have some very interesting looking keychain lights that recharge from the same charger most android phones use, might be exactly what you need! Check out the Fenix lights too, they carry some of them here in town...I believe sportsman's warehouse has them. I have one of their tactical lights, can't hurt it! There are many more if you look that are very high quality. I listed the ones I have and or am looking into. I Kind of geek on lights-we have to have good ones on our little farm. A cheap light from home depot or Walmart will suffice, but you will realize the difference if you buy a quality light.

Also, Casper listed some awesome brands. I've had or have those as well, other than the Zebralight!

I’ve always gone with Surefire, they are a basic light with tons of options. I have them all over the house and in all the vehicles. When I was in the service that’s exclusively what I ran. I have recently tried olight flashlights and am very impressed with both the moderately priced as well as their more expensive lights. Those are rechargeable and I am amazed at their light strength.
