Micro Red Dot for the poor: PA or TNV ?

Post by wagon » Fri Jul 22, 2011 8:28 pm

Me no Soldier of Fortune nor have need for homestead defense (no homestead anyway), nor needing a RDS for whatever SHTF scenario. I already have a Burris FFII on a MKIII 22/45, and a Ultradot25 on a MKIII bull 5", but I also have a SPARE but very nice Ruger MKIII SS "upper" sitting idle in the safe, and last week snatched a Burris FF Ruger mount for a good price, so here I am, trying to find it an econo-RDS just for some range / plink fun.

If my research is correct, among the econo-micro-RDS, the Primary Arms Micro-Green-Dot and (the not so econo) TNV's RDP-II both can use a Burris FF mount. PA will run ~$70 new, RDP-II $75 used. I believe they are almost identical except for RDP-II has glass lens vs plastic on PA. Both are 1 yr warranty, if new.

Have a few questions seeking for input .. and other suggestions:

1. Anyone one here has experience on either RDS? How do you like it?

2. I'm leaning PA coz for the same money it will be new and I will have the 1 yr warranty. I feel RDP-II is overpriced for $135... especially when my Burris FFII only costed me $140. But is RDP-II, and it's glass lens, worth TWICE the PA's?

3. My intended application is really for plinking fun, I want "miro RDS" coz I like them sit low, small and light. Other than these two, are there any ECONO-micro-RDS in the market which uses the Burris mount? (To my pocket book, anything >$100 is NOT "econo".)

Pls share me your thoughts. Thanks!
