Best MRDS?

Post by Yaakattack3 » Mon Feb 11, 2013 6:38 pm

Okay, so I am putting an ACOG on my AR, and in the future would like to put a micro red dot with an offset mount for engagement under 75 meters or so. I do not want to piggy back the red dot on top of the ACOG because I do not like how high it sits, and requires you to break your cheek weld. YMMV.

So, I have been searching all around the interwebz for a good comprehensive review of each, but can"t find a ton. I was hoping some of you may have some insight and personal experiences with some of these, and could shed some light on them. This will be a back up, not my primary optic, so it is hard to justify spending the money on an RMR or Aimpoint Micro, but alas, they still made the list. Here are the ones I am looking at.

Aimpoint Micro T-1/H-1
Trijicon RMR
Burris Fastfire II/III
Insight MRDS
Doctor Optic

If you feel I missed any that should be considered, please let me know.

Thanks boys and girls.

Many of them such as the Fastfire do not do well when wet. They maybe waterproof however the sight picture can be adversely affected. Just a thought.

I'd go with the Docter. My buddy has one on his AR-10. Last time we went to the range I noticed quite a few scuffs/dings. Like he'd dropped it. It was dead on though. Obviously hadn't lost its zero, so it must be pretty rugged. Plus, I think they're made in Z Deutschland. Can't go wrong there.

What about these?

A buddy of mine loves the vortex line. Tells me it's a "poor mans aimpoint" or something...

Thanks!

I ended up buying an AIM mini reflex sight to tide me over. :)
