Freedom Arms ceased manufacturing its proprietary .454 Casull factory ammunition around the late 1990s, shortly after the cartridge was officially standardized by SAAMI in 1997

Prior to this, Freedom Arms was the primary commercial source for both the firearms and the high-pressure ammunition required for the .454 Casull. Once standardized, major manufacturers like Winchester, Hornady, and Federal began producing the round, and companies like Starline replaced Freedom Arms as the primary brass supplier

Key Details of the 260 Grain JFP Load
Original Purpose: The 260 grain Jacketed Flat Point (JFP) was one of the original factory loads developed specifically for the Model 83 revolver to maximize the cartridge's flat-shooting potential for big game hunting.
Production Era: It was manufactured from the revolver's introduction in 1983 until the late 1990s transition.
Technical Shift: Early Freedom Arms factory ammo (pre-1990) used Large Pistol primers; however, around 1990, the company switched to Small Rifle primer pockets to better handle the 50,000+ CUP pressures, a standard that was later adopted by SAAMI.

While Freedom Arms no longer produces factory ammunition, Freedom Munitions currently manufactures a similar 260 grain RNFP load for the .454 Casull.
